On August 13, 2013, former Bexar County Commissioner Mike Novak announced his plans to challenge Sen. Campbell in the 2014 GOP primary. Novak served as commissioner from 1995-1998 and also as President of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce in 2004.
